The 12th APHELEIA International Seminar on Humanities and Landscape Management will be organized in Mação, from March 18 to 27, 2026. This edition has as its central theme “Imagination and Landscaping: representing, experimenting, playing, performing, transforming.” From the assessment of prehistoric occupations to contemporary communities, the Seminar will discuss the importance of imagination in the process that leads to the design of cultural landscapes, that is, features that carry a component induced by humans (domestication, species selection, artifact dispersal, rock art, human constructions, symbols, signs, etc.). The Seminar will debate in depth the dimensions of imagination in representation, experimentation, play, and performance, in their interaction with sociocultural transformations. The intensive 10-day program (6 ECTS) will include morning lectures and afternoon workshops, debates, and visits.
